Gain a number of stacks of Evade and Damage buffs depending on the number of enemy groups present. A stack of Evade grants ($evasion_value)% evasion while a stack of Damage grants ($damage_value)% damage, and each stack lasts ($time_value) seconds. If only 1 enemy group is present on activation, gain 3 stacks of Damage. Each additional enemy group present when the skill activates grants 1 extra stack of Evade and 1 less stack of Damage, to a maximum of 6 stacks.
JS 9 is an evasion tank first acquired in the Springtime Operation Point Event that has buff tiles perfect for an offtank position but serving as a good main evasion tank in role. She is suitable for a main tank position as well, although her tile buff will not cover the AR in position 7 when used as a main tank.
JS 9 has slightly below average base HP, but makes up for it with one of the highest base evasion stats for an SMG. With a +30% crit rate and +18% rate of fire tile buff that can buff all 3 ARs from an offtank position, she has one of the best off tank tile buffs in the game.
JS 9's skill is rather unique, buffing her damage and/or evasion based on the number of enemy groups at the time of skill activation.
The way it works is, with 1 group of enemies left, she will have 3 stacks of damage buff, which are multiplicative. With 3 stacks, her skill gives a 337.5% multiplier to her damage for 5 seconds. (150% * 150% * 150% = 337.5%).
Her damage buff with 3 stacks is pretty high, almost matching that of SR-3MP. Nevertheless, with a skill ICD of 6 seconds, we would advise against thinking of JS 9 as a DPS SMG.
For every additional group of enemies left on skill activation, she instead gets 1 fewer stack of damage and 1 additional stack of evasion, up to 6 stacks of evasion for 7 groups of enemies. With 3 groups of enemies, she will have 1 stack of damage and 2 stacks of evasion.
At 4 groups of enemies, she has 3 stacks of evasion buff = 246% multiplier. With 86 base evasion and 35 more from a maxed T-Exo, this puts her at over 300 Evasion. (86 + 35 = 121, 121 * 2.46 = 298, plus 5%+ affection bonus). This puts her EVA above MP7's, who has one of the strongest EVA skills in the game.
Overall, JS9 is well suited for tanking in fights where her ICD isn't a problem, as she can achieve the highest Evasion in the game with enough stacks on her skill.
JS 9 has excellent defensive stats for an SMG, boasting average HP, but one of the highest EVA stats. This already high base EVA stat can be boosted up to absurd levels with enough EVA stacks from her skill.
JS 9 does not have a grenade skill like most other SMG offtanks, meaning players will need to bring another doll with the grenade skill if they need it for enemies like tarantulas or avoid running into them with a JS 9 Echelon.
JS 9 is one of the better choices when it comes to fighting stronger enemies. SMGs do not contribute to damage to the same extent as ARs; so long as a grenade is not necessary, how much of a beating an SMG can take is more valuable than how much damage they can do.
JS 9 is one of the only SMGs with a tile buff that can cover all 3 ARs from an offtank position, and her tile buff is amazing. Also, while defensive SMGs in themselves are not that rare, defensive offtank SMGs are far less common, and JS 9 is one of the best.
While her skill can increase damage, we do not recommend thinking of her as a DPS SMG, as you will rarely have less than four groups of enemies alive when her skill activates at the 6s mark. Instead think of her mainly as a defensive tank, one that can reach insane levels of EVA.
Overall, JS 9 is one of the best offtank SMGs in the game due to her high survivability and strong tile buff.
