C96 is a Flare HG. Once upon a time, this was utterly useless. Then Flares were reworked and C96 found a niche. Now, she has reached truly strong status at Night, thanks in large part to her SPEQ-Set.
MOD1 improves C96’s Skill 1 to give 90% Night Vision, returning all dolls to almost daytime Accuracy and enabling the use of VFLs at night. Her new Skill 2,
Night Sky Pursuer, grants allies 2 ammo to their current clip (if they even have a clip size) and raises their Critical Damage by 20%, which are smaller bonuses. She also gets the usual array of buffs, like stat upgrades and improved tiles.
Although you may feel like C96 is forced into Position 5 due to her tile layout, her tiles only offer Accuracy and Evasion, so they can often be safely ignored. Also note that Flares are less effective on MGs, due to their lower base Accuracy and competition from other dolls who grant flat Accuracy, such as Nova or TPS.
With her SPEQ-Set, C96 gains a reason to go beyond MOD1 because she can do something truly unique: turn the tide against enemies and force them to experience life without PEQs! For the first 20 seconds of battle, C96 reduces all enemies’ accuracy by a staggering 90%. For a nice little bonus, her S2 buffs are also doubled.
There’s nothing particularly remarkable about C96 by herself, but her SPEQ-Set has given her a special place in the meta as a strong pick for Night battles. Besides that, MOD1 alone is cheap and a decent budget update, but we strongly advise investing all the way if you’re going to invest in C96 at all.
