Overview

Chauchat bucks the trend of French weapons being of dubious value, armed with raw stats, and a nifty Reload time reduction Skill.

Sheer stats will carry Chauchat a long way, thanks to her absolutely massive 102 Damage which is, and will remain, best in class for the foreseeable future. Backed up by 34 Accuracy, Chauchat may not have a Damage boosting Skill or extra shots, but she will perform acceptably by virtue of those stats alone. Her Reload times will hurt, due to her abysmal RoF. See here for a quick primer on MG reload speed.

However, Chauchat circumvents this problem with her Skill Fleur-de-Lis. Another stack-based Skill, this one is pretty simple. At the start of the battle, and every 4 seconds after, Chauchat gains a stack. When her Skill activates she will expend up to 2 stacks to reduce her reload time by 20% with 1 stack, 44% with 2 stacks. Chauchat can store up to 4 stacks and will consume the maximum stacks possible on Skill activation. When burning 2 Stacks, Chauchat will need only 2.86 seconds to reload, which lets her get back to putting DPS downrange much faster than other MGs and keeps her early DPS more competitive than it might first appear.

Sadly, other MGs will power creep Chauchat so any investment will have an expiration date. MGs do not come into the meta for quite a while, and when they do, other MGs still reign above Chauchat. If you are a certain YouTuber, or just really like Chauchat, go for it, but understand she will eventually be outclassed by other MGs.

Pros

Those Stats:

That 102 Damage is not a joke. While she doesn’t get any Damage buffs, Chauchat will still hit like a truck out of the gate. Backing up said Damage is an equally respectable 34 Accuracy, allowing Chauchat to compete based on nothing but these alone.

Armor Tiles:

While a slightly odd value of 12%, Chauchat’s Armor Tile puts her in a relatively small pool of first volley Armor Buffing MGs. While this isn't an extremely in-demand niche, it does prevent Chauchat from falling into complete obscurity.

Cons

No Damage Buffs:

Chauchat’s Skill, Fleur-de-Lis, is a strange one, speeding up her Reloads. While this does increase her practical DPS, thanks to reducing the time spent reloading, it’s not as good as just flat out boosting her Damage.

Low Mag size:

9 in the mag is on the lower end of MGs, although Chauchat’s speedier reloads somewhat mitigate this issue.
