FG42 is a craftable two-star German MG. Her Skill sports a 3 second Initial Cooldown which guarantees critical hits on every shot taken and increases her Accuracy by 60%. While FG42 should technically be as good as the rest of the Hunting Impulse MGs, she’s limited by her low Damage stat and very short clip that render her inferior to her counterpart LWMMG. Although she remains a serviceable unit, she cannot proclaim budget status because LWMMG is also a two-star MG that does everything FG42 is capable of but does it better. Therefore there is no real reason to level FG42 up over LWMMG, unless taking into account the best reason for leveling dolls up — those being waifu reasons.
FG42’s version of Hunting Impulse has a 3 second cooldown, allowing her to use it in her first volley.
Hunting Impulse increases FG42’s Accuracy by 60% and guarantees critical hits on every shot, which is nothing short of great for MGs.
FG42 suffers from a low Damage stat of 87 which hurts her damage output by a fair deal.
FG42’s 8 shell magazine is her biggest weakness as it hurts her clip damage and Skill effectiveness.
With a very short initial Skill Cooldown and two great effects to go with it, FG42 was blessed with the best active MG Skill. Unfortunately, her small clip size has a sizeable negative impact on her overall effectiveness.
Clip size cannot be directly looked at unless it is modified first by an ammo box, so therefore one might assume that all MGs share the same clip size. Sadly for FG42, that is not the case, and because of it she is completely outclassed by her counterpart LWMMG. Not only does LWMMG scale better with Damage buffs due to her 96 Damage stat, but she also possesses an extra bullet in her magazine which means, in others words, an extra dead enemy. And because both FG42 and LWMMG are both two stars and equally as accessible, there’s no practical reason to use FG42 over LWMMG.
FG42 is not actually all that worse than LWMMG, but when one takes into account that LWMMG is already considered to be the floor of viable MGs, being outclassed by her is not great news. Does this mean FG42 is not viable? It does not, but it does make investing in FG42 over LWMMG pointless from a performance standpoint.
