At the start of the battle, lose -50 HP to gain "Shelter". [Shelter]: This unit cannot lose dummy-links when in effect. The duration of "Shelter" is the total number of assault rifles and submachine guns including herself within the echelon multiplied by ($duration) seconds. After every victory, the duration of "Shelter" will be reduced by 20%, up to a maximum of 3 stacks.
G36C is essentially a more balanced version of Thompson, although they both generally find their use in the exact same situations. Like Thompson, G36 has the Force Shield skill and a very high base HP pool, meaning she has excellent survivability against bosses and other burst damage-based enemies in long battles. Unlike Thompson, however, G36C has a more well-rounded stat block — namely in her significantly higher Evasion — and is therefore a somewhat better choice for general use as a tank.
G36C boasts one of the highest HP caps among SMGs and has the Force Shield skill, making her a strong tank in boss fights or other extended battles.
G36C’s Formation buff provides both Damage and RoF boosts to ARs in all tiles behind her, making her a suitable tank for multi-AR teams.
G36C has slightly below-average Evasion, and when combined with the long Initial Cooldown on Force Shield, she ends up being more vulnerable to chip damage in short and medium length battles.
Gr G36c Mod is the extreme upper limit for invulnerability skills.
Her mod does a couple nice things like fix her low evasion problem, buff her HP even more, give her taunt, and a special equipment that gives her even more evasion and extra movespeed. The extra evasion and movespeed are technically not required to take advantage of her main strength, so stopping on mod 2 is fine for such an expensive mod.
The main draw for modding Gr G36c is her skill 2. She cannot lose links while the shelter effect is active, it’s almost like another forceshield. No matter how much she is attacked, no matter what she is attacked by, once her skill 2 is up she cannot die.
Not dying for long periods of time is extremely important in GFL, so Gr G36c Mod is a very good mod to invest in. When using her, commanders should be pairing her with the likes of SP9 and strong ARs in the backline to minimize her skill 2’s downsides. One exception may be the need for a HG on the team at night for vision, which cuts into Gr G36c Mod’s total shelter duration.
The upper limit on constant uptime for being unable to die for Gr G36c Mod is 28 seconds. If she chains a forceshield into her fresh skill 2 into another forceshield. Even the most extremely deadly enemies would probably die well before then.
Gr G36c Mod’s skill 2 solves the biggest weakness for forceshielders, in a way. Since her shelter activates extremely quickly when she’s not moving, it doesn’t matter how early the enemy gets to shoot, Gr G36c Mod can be invulnerable by then.
With the modification to her skill 1 to taunt enemies and her special equipment giving her extra movespeed, Gr G36c Mod can control enemy agro and positioning extremely easily. Even for the more annoying enemies that like targeting the backline or that have sticky targeting.
Gr G36c Mod has high HP for an SMG at 1085.
Gr G36c Mod deals 50 damage to herself. This comes before her shelter skill, so she can kill herself with her own skill given enough fights. She should absolutely not be used for generalist purposes because of this.
To effectively make the most out of Gr G36c Mod and not waste her shelter duration, she should be kited for the entire beginning of the fight. And she has a couple frame perfect techniques. And if trying to preserve the shelter duration, she should be kited for literally the entire fight. This is annoying as hell.
Each fight where Gr G36c Mod uses her shelter skill and wins lowers the duration of her shelter. After just 2 fights she can no longer do the forceshield - shelter - forceshield combo. Combined with the fact that she remembers the victory count during a mission. And this makes use of her skill 2 in difficult maps almost a limited resource. Several hard fights all demanding her shelter skill will leave her more vulnerable for other fights.
To get the most out of Gr G36c Mod’s skill 2, her team usually consists of an ARSMG. This loses the extreme flexibility of other classes like HGs, although there are definitely extremely good ARSMG units. It’s not always necessary to get the maximum duration on Gr G36c Mod’s shelter either, if the fights always end before her skill wears off.
While 28 seconds of immortality is very good, some fights just take far far longer than 28 seconds. Extremely long winded boss fights with dozens of immunity skills. Multiple waves of enemies. It is in these kinds of long-haul fights that Gr G36c Mod finally has an actual weakness, since outside of her skill 2 she is still just a forceshielder. Her skill uptime is still the same, and so she is vulnerable to damage for ¾’s of the time after her skill 2 wears off.
Here we can see that Gr G36c Mod with a full ARSMG team has 8 seconds of shelter at a minimum.
You can use Gr G36c Mod’s forceshield/have her stop moving to use her own forceshield skill 1 without activating her shelter effect. Simply move her right when she activates the forceshield. For some situations this technique has a 1 frame window, so this will be elaborated on in the skill 2 breakdown.
This section of the full analysis will cover the incredibly stupid frame-specific behavior of Gr G36c Mod. Believe me, almost no one needs to know how this stuff actually works.
If the enemy walks into team range while Gr G36c Mod is standing still and not attacking, the animation/skill order is:
In this situation, Gr G36c Mod has 12 whole frames (0.4 seconds) to start moving before she uses shelter.
If Gr G36c Mod comes to a stop after moving, and the enemy is in range when she stops, the animation/skill order is:
In this situation, Gr G36c Mod has 1 frame (~0.03 seconds) to start moving before she uses shelter.
If the enemy spawns in range of the echelon at the start of the fight, it stops and starts firing immediately. In this case, Gr G36c Mod’s animation/skill order is:
Here you have a 13 to 25 frame window (~0.43 to 0.83 seconds) to move Gr G36c Mod at the start of a fight before she uses shelter. That’s pretty generous and makes delaying her shelter skill easier. It also implies the hilarious tech of buffing Gr G36c Mod’s rate of fire stat to give yourself more breathing room at the start of a fight.
There are some incredibly stupid and bizarre mechanics at play here, so let me explain.
Gr G36c Mod, like most T-Dolls, cannot use multiple skills and/or play multiple animations at once. If she is firing, she cannot use skills during the firing animation, and it is only before or after she has shot the bullet that she can use skills. Included in these skills are her self damage and shelter. These are coded as separate skills.
Self-damage being guaranteed to be taken by Gr G36c Mod happens on a specific frame. Usually in the same frame she can start using skills. But the frame that 50 damage actually appears is the frame right after that. The damage is guaranteed at that point though, even if Gr G36c Mod starts moving on that exact frame. But this does mean that if Gr G36c Mod uses her skill 1 before coming to a stop, she doesn’t need an HP shield to block the damage. The forceshield blocks it.
Once Gr G36c Mod self-damages, that skill no longer delays the shelter skill. This means that Gr G36c Mod can only activate her forceshield without using shelter once per fight.
