Overview
M1918 is an MG that buffs her own Damage with her Skill on a long ICD.
MGs in general have several major issues that cause them to be ineffective for general content in comparison to ARs and RFs. They spend large amounts of time reloading, they have low Accuracy, and their targeting is random. Add in the fact that their supposed niche in “burst damage” only applies for the first few seconds of a fight, and a good RF or AR will outperform them shortly after Skills come into play, long before the fight is over. M1918 does not alleviate any of these issues and as such, is not recommended for general use.
Mod review
Overview
M1918’s Digimind Upgrade sets out to improve the primary issue that her original form had: her lackluster first volley damage. She still has her faults, but M1918 Mod is nevertheless a solid MG.
Her base form already possessed great offensive stats, but now they’re even better than before thanks to a considerable FP and Accuracy boost. Her clip size still sadly remains the same, but her new Skill 2, Battlefield Magic, helps to make this much less of an issue. With her initial shots in each volley having a substantial damage boost, her damage per volley is much more comparable to the likes of other top MGs such as MG5. Her second volley in particular will be immensely strong since both Damage Focus MG and Battlefield Magic will be active.
M1918 Mod’s biggest downside is simply the investment needed for her to reach her peak. She will ideally want to be Mod3 for the extra stats from being oathed, on top of needing her Skill 2 maxed and wanting the Titan Fire-Control Clip (Her Mod Special Equipment can be ignored). Especially given that M1918 is a 4★ at base, the cost of doing all of this will be very substantial. Her other remaining issue is her tile layout is unchanged from her base form.
All in all, M1918 Mod is a strong MG that can now properly compete with the likes of other top MGs. Despite this, commanders will need to consider if the DPS she offers is worth the investment, especially when other MGs can be comparatively strong with much less investment
Pros
Battlefield Magic
M1918 Mod’s new Skill 2 goes a long way in improving her overall DPS. Battlefield Magic sets her reload time to a fixed 5 seconds, and also boosts the damage of her first three shots in each volley by 40%. The most substantial part of this is the extra damage on the first three slots which results in an overall large DPS boost for all of M1918’s volleys. The fixed reload time is a nice bonus as well, helping her to get into subsequent volleys quicker.
Stronger Offensive Stats
M1918 Mod enjoys a substantial 5 FP and 3 Accuracy from her upgrade, bringing her up to 101 FP and 34 Accuracy. Her offensive stats were already high in her base form, so now they’re even higher and do contribute greatly to her DPS.
Cons
Very High Cost
In order to reach her best potential, M1918 is arguably one of the most expensive mods (besides the 5★ Mods). She wants to ideally be brought all the way up to Mod3 so she can enjoy the extra stats from being oathed. On top of this, she wants not her Mod Speq but her other Speq: the Titan Fire-Control Chip. So she needs the typical resources that a 4★ needs to be upgraded, an oath ring for the extra stats from affection, her other Speq which needs to be farmed, and then that Speq needs to be fully upgraded. All in all, this will total to a large number of memory fragments, cores, data, and other resources.
Considering that other strong MGs have comparable performance to M1918 Mod whilst costing much less to reach their peak, it can be difficult to justify this upgrade.
Poor Tile Layout Remains
Her upgrade sadly does not fix M1918’s poor tiles. She still only buffs one SG that’s directly in front of her, again forcing her into Position 4 which in turn means that position can’t be used for a HG buffer if desired.
