Magal is a 3★ AR obtained as the login reward for July 2020.
Magal has not much going in her favor. Her only notable strength is her decent skill, Charge Focus, which buffs both her Damage and Rate of Fire for double the time that Charge Focus normally does. Even then, this skill still suffers from the typical 6 second Initial Cooldown.
Her stats are poor, possessing both low Damage and low Rate of Fire. She’s outclassed in both aspects by the more readily available FNC who can also be dummy linked easier. This places her on the lower end of DPS for ARs even with her skill. On top of this, while her tiles give a fair boost in themselves, their coverage is terrible and makes them awkward to utilize.
There is little reason to level and use Magal. There are plenty of strong ARs available in the game. Even if you are a newcomer and want some cheap ARs to bolster your early game roster, choices like FNC, OTs-12, or F2000 are more appealing. She’s a serviceable AR, just unnecessary and not worth raising. Very cute though, which may be enough for some of you.
Magal’s skill is Charge Focus, the same skill found on TAR-21 and ART556. This skill buffs Magal by 50% Damage and 20% Rate of Fire for 10 seconds. While the modifiers that Magal has are much lower than that of the other two, their versions of Charge Focus only last for 5 seconds - giving Magal one advantage in her better skill uptime.
Despite the decent skill, Magal can’t be saved from her raw stats. 47 Damage and 70 Rate of Fire are both low for ARs and result in her DPS being relatively poor.
Magal’s tiles are also really bad, primarily due to their coverage. She has the same pattern as Type 95, buffing the SMG to her bottom left. In a standard F formation, she needs to be in Position 7 in order to buff anyone. The actual buff they give is not terrible, providing 50% Accuracy and 12% Evasion.
Charge Focus sits at an Initial Cooldown of 6 seconds. This might not sound bad at first, but this is on the slower end of ICDs for ARs. Compared to what other ARs with 6s ICDs get from their skills (K11, AK-12, AN-94, EM-2, Ribeyrolles, etc), what Magal gets appears lackluster in comparison. The 10 second uptime of her skill at least means that she doesn’t suffer from the long downtime that other Charge Focus users have.
