MP-446 (Otherwise known as Viking) is a 2★ HG. There’s not much to say about her base form, she’s a decent FP buffer that works nicely in the early game.
Her tiles are good, having great coverage and a solid Damage boost. Buffing damage is universally beneficial and as such can be placed anywhere a commander might need a HG. Her skill is poor however. Debuffing the enemy Rate of Fire may sound good initially, but offensive buffs are generally preferred and, depending on the firepower of the opponent, may make little difference in team survivability.
Still, her wide availability (she can drop from chapter 1-5 onwards) and low cost makes Viking a good option for newcomers. She will eventually fade from use once commanders get better FP buffers such as SAA and Grizzly. Do still keep her around though, in case you ever wish to perform her digimind upgrade.
MP-446’s tiles allow her to buff the entire backline and the others in her own column from Position 5. This is a highly desirable tile layout as it allows her to occupy any typical HG position and remain effective.
The tiles buff for 28% Damage, which is a solid DPS boost for any doll.
MP-446’s skill is Assault Suppression. This skill debuffs the Rate of Fire of all enemies by 22%. This does result in more time between enemy shots so it is a theoretical increase in team survivability.
It simply isn’t that useful however, especially against stronger enemies that deal a lot of damage regardless. It will usually be only a small increase in survivability. As such, offensive buffs are generally preferred.
MP-446’s Digimind Upgrade is a simple but effective boost to her original capabilities.
Her stats primarily receive an Evasion improvement, helping her to stay safer if being used in the front. Her tiles also now give a stronger Damage boost. The most notable improvement though is her Skill 2, Tidal Breach, which lets her give her teammates a nice offensive boost when her first skill is active. This doesn’t change that the first skill itself is still overall not that useful, even with it receiving a boost of its own.
While this Digimind Upgrade is nothing fancy, it’s a nice upgrade for anyone looking for more HG options. She only needs to reach Mod2 for the bulk of her improvement, as her Skill 2 is far more impactful on her performance than her Special Equipment is. Since she offers no unique utility though, especially compared to other HGs with mods, commanders will need to decide for themselves if Viking’s simple upgrade is worth the cost.
MP-446 Mod retains her previous tile layout (which is absolutely fine, the layout was already amazing) except they now give a 36% Damage boost as opposed to the old 28%. This is a straightforward and solid improvement to her already good tiles, putting her on par with Mk23 for tiles.
MP-446 Mod’s new skill allows her to grant her teammates with a solid 20% Rate of Fire boost for 4 seconds when her first skill activates. While most boost skills last for 8 seconds, this is nevertheless a good upgrade which enhances Viking’s overall general capabilities.
Even with Assault Suppression receiving an effectiveness increase, it doesn’t change that debuffing enemy Rate of Fire is still not that useful. It remains what will be a mostly small increase in survivability.
