Everyone stand at attention for the Queen of the Night!... or at least, who used to be anyway.
OTs-14 “Groza” is a 5★ AR whose reputation in Girls` Frontline is immense, even to the point where she’s the face of the sequel. Is that reputation earned? Well, kind of. While Groza used to be a highly coveted night specialist, sadly there’s far less need of her in your arsenal nowadays.
Her main draw is her simple skill, Damage Focus N, which gives her a humongous damage boost at night and a much lower one in the day. Something that ARSMG teams struggle with sometimes is armoured targets and this massive damage bonus at night does give Groza enhanced armour killing capabilities over typical ARs. Armoured units have been common in Night missions since early game, whereas they only started to show on day maps post chapter 10. You can probably see why she was so desirable in the past, given that often these ARSMG teams would need to fight armoured units.
Nowadays, meta shifts have not been too kind to Groza. Night maps are becoming less frequent, and often you want RFHG teams for night anyway because of the enhanced armour values of late game enemies. Because of this, owning a Groza nowadays isn’t that helpful overall. This is not to say she’s bad, because she’s still a competent AR for night combat with an armour killing niche. She’s just not the meta powerhouse she once was.
Thanks to her passable stats and nighttime focused skill, Groza is able to perform more well at night compared to typical ARs. In particular, the whopping 200% Damage bonus that her skill gives at night grants her much greater armour killing potential compared to most ARs in the game.
Groza’s skill comes with a 6 second duration and 16 second cooldown. Once the skill expires, Groza has a lengthy 10 second wait before her skill is active again. Given how reliant she is on her skill, this downtime greatly hinders her performance in cases where the enemy is not defeated within the first skill activation.
Groza actually isn’t as bad in the day as other night focused ARs are, but that still doesn’t mean she wants to be deployed in the day either. Her skill grants a 70% damage bonus in the day which isn’t bad at all (considering G41’s skill for example is a 75% bonus) but she’ll suffer from much greater downtime (both G41 and Groza have 16 second cooldowns, except G41’s skill lasts for 10 seconds. G41 also has a shorter initial cooldown.) and lower overall stats.
