Overview
PPD-40 is a 4* direct-fire offtank SMG that supports her team by pretending to be an HG as well.
Her active skill is much like a 4* Firepower Buffing HG’s like SAA and K5, except it comes out much earlier at 4 seconds, which is beneficial for ending fights quickly. Her passive does not count herself when checking for allies in the same column, so in typical ARSMG formations she usually only gets one stack.
PPD-40’s tile buffs can reach an entire AR backline from the preferred off-tank position, but the offered buffs are generally inferior to the previously mentioned HGs.
As an offtank SMG, while her skill is better than nothing, PPD-40 pales in comparison to the likes of SR-3MP in terms of raw self-DPS, but more than makes up for it in the ability to buff the other DPS’s even earlier than a real HG. Yet she still holds the flaws of direct-fire SMGs like link-dependent DPS when formations place her directly in harm’s way. If she is not being used for her earlier firepower buff skill and direct fire capabilities, using a proper HG like P22 would be better.
She also has a funny pose in her undamaged art.
Pros
Good Tile Coverage
PPD-40 can reach the entire backline from position 8, where off tanks usually go.
Strong and Early FP Buffs
PPD-40’s active skill has the multiplier of a 4* HG but has a 2 second faster initial cooldown, which potentially lets fights finish much quicker.
Cons
Low Base FP
At 26, PPD-40’s firepower is slightly low.
Low Selfbuff Multiplier
When compared to SR-3MP’s 260% FP self-buff, PPD-40’s 61% at maximum stacks is far weaker.
Awkward Positioning for Full Use of Passive
Due to PPD-40 not counting herself in a column for her passive, a 3rd t-doll is needed in the front line to fully utilize the skill, which is difficult to manage.
Link Dependent DPS
All the current problems with direct-fire SMGs still exist, their DPS is link dependent yet they are in the tanking column, so they’re more likely to get shot and lose damage output.
