Snayperskaya Vintovka sistem’y Dragunova — or SVD for short — is a craftable four-star Russian RF and a very strong one at that. SVD combines high Damage and RoF to result in a lethal RF with no downsides to speak of. She will dispose of enemies with ease when properly buffed, and in this regard, only a handful RFs can dream of standing up to SVD in combat performance. Due to SVD’s strong RoF self-buff Skill, she can reach the RoF cap quite easily, which allows for a more hybrid team that doesn’t focus on RoF HGs as much as standard RFHG Echelon compositions do. Overall and because of these facts, SVD remains a top-of-the-line RF throughout all stages of the game and is a highly recommended choice if available.
SVD’s stat base is solid all around. She is well above average in both Damage and Rate of Fire.
SVD carries a strong RoF self-buff Skill that allows her to reach RoF cap quite easily and helps her compensate for overkill.
RF as a class have high inherent Damage and Crit modifiers but low Rate of Fire. The fact that SVD’s Skill completely nullifies this weakness makes her a perfect all-rounder that will provide a consistently incredible performance.
SVD’s stat base is almost the perfect balance between speed and strength. Sporting 130 base Damage and 37 RoF, she almost always benefits from boosts to these stats. Though it isn’t usually recommended to focus entirely on buffing DPS RF’s Damage, there is also a RoF cap to consider and SVD needs about 91% additional RoF buffs to reach the frame-imposed cap of 116. Because of SVD’s relative ease of reaching RoF cap through her incredible self-buff Skill, she can make use of hybrid buffs instead of needing to focus solely on RoF like a good portion of RFs do.
A problem that plagues the RF class as a whole is the concept of overkill. Basically since RFs have high Damage but low RoF, they will usually deal more damage than they need to while KOing foes, therefore wasting time while they aim at their next target. Since overkill cannot be accounted for on paper, in practice RF squads always perform worse than they should due to having high damage-dealing potential but low Rate of Fire to take advantage of it. RoF self-buff RFs do not suffer from overkill as much due to their almost AR-like nature, and SVD happens to possess an extremely strong Skill that completely nullifies overkill’s disadvantages. This renders her exempt of a weakness inherent to RFs, so it cannot really be overstated how effective she is.
In a game where damage is king, having one of the highest DPS out of all RFs and being able to quickly reach her peak performance in battle means SVD will rarely find herself outdone by almost any other RF that is not her upscaled counterpart, WA2000. These qualities even help SVD perform some niches such as boss-killing better than RFs particularly geared for these roles, easily making her one of the best in her class by a relatively wide margin.
In summary, SVD is without a doubt an incredibly effective generalist, and almost on par with WA2000. Featuring no inherent weaknesses, she is able to outperform nearly all other RFs almost all of the time. It is impossible not to recommend her.
