Overview
Type 79 is a Stun Grenade SMG, stunning enemies on hit.
Grenade travel time combined with ICD makes these rather slow at having an impact in battle. Adding in the fact that most newer enemies are immune to stuns and Stun Grenade SMGs do not have any other means of increasing their survivability means that Type 79 is not recommended for use.

Overview
You know how 100 Shiki and RO635 suffer in priority due to the existence of Suomi MOD? Well, here’s another SMG that can join the “Good upgrade but Suomi literally exists” club! Type 79 is the next 5 star SMG to join that prestigious club, coming with a good upgrade that boosts her survivability but with some caveats that hinder her compared to the tanking queen.
Her new Skill 2, Fireproof Fortress, grants her two separate bonuses. The more notable of the two: She grants herself a 15% HP shield the moment she takes any amount of damage to her HP. This is on a 3 second cooldown, so if her shields last long enough, she can theoretically take only a single instance of damage every 3 seconds, maybe even longer if the enemies are not hitting hard enough to break it before the cooldown is up. The other bonus is a stacking Damage and Crit Rate boost that occurs every 1.5 seconds she doesn’t take any HP damage.
This is definitely a good survivability tool, but the problem is that it’s her only survival tool. She does have a Flashbang Grenade with a 4.5 second stun, but many modern enemies flat out cannot be stunned. This Flashbang does get a buff in her upgrade, but it’s purely offensive leaning, inflicting Vulnerability if it only hits a single foe and also granting 90% Night Vision during night battles. For the most part, this skill can be considered a Night Battle utility.
Overall, Type 79 MOD has the components of making a good tank SMG and she does perform her duties well enough. However, what she offers simply isn’t enough for her to keep up with Suomi MOD. If you do upgrade her, MOD2 is the primarily recommended level. That being said, her Special Equipment does reduce her Flashbang cooldown by 25%, which effectively makes her Night Vision buff have permanent uptime.
