Type97 is a craftable five-star Chinese AR and the younger sister of Type95. She brings to the table strong base stats as well as an incredible Skill — Assault Focus T — that allows her to be self-reliant. Due to its short Initial Cooldown and long Duration, Type97’s Skill will remain active for the entirety of most battles and will only have a downtime of 1 second. It also allows her to reach the RoF cap with only an extra 8% RoF buff, making her exceptionally self-sufficient.
There is a factor that does hold Type97 back, however — since her Skill offers an RoF buff, her scalability and versatility are a bit more limited when compared to self-buffing ARs who instead have a Damage boosting skill. Overall, though, Type97 is a solid choice for most AR teams and would fit well into almost any Echelon that utilizes her T-Doll class.
Type97’s Damage, Accuracy, and Rate of Fire are all above average for her class.
Type 97’s Skill features a 50% RoF self-buff on a 2 second Initial Cooldown and a 15 second Skill Duration. Through this, Type97 is almost able to reach the RoF soft cap by herself with no additional buffs, making her incredibly self-sufficient.
Buffing any SMG placed in front of her to the upper diagonal, Type97’s Tile placement strongly synergizes with her self-reliant Skill to allow her to effectively fill a DPS position.
Although Type97 does have a strong Skill that allows her to be self-reliant, RoF self-buffers face the inherent problem of having limited scaling due to RoF cap. This is an issue that self-buffing Damage DPS units do not possess.
Because of her limited scalability, Type97’s synergy with SMGs is also negatively affected as a result. Since all RoF Tile Buffs are therefore wasted on Type97, she’s not as versatile as some other ARs.
Following in her sister’s footsteps, Type97 is a AR who primarily focuses on dealing as much burst damage as possible in a short amount of time. Much like Type95, she is enabled to do this primarily through her Skill and excellent statline.
Type97’s stats are incredibly synergistic with her Skill. Gifted with one of the highest Damage and Accuracy stats for her class, Type97’s only notable weakness is her average RoF — which her Skill compensates for by pushing her close to the RoF cap 2 seconds into battle. Moreover, Type97’s Skill Uptime of 15 seconds combined with her 16 second cooldown means she will virtually never have to worry about her Skill not being active. To further add to her strength, Type97’s Tile buff consists of 10% RoF and 18% Evasion to any SMG placed in front of her to the upper diagonal. This is an excellent layout considering her DPS position in the back row and a great buff to any Main tank or Offtank.
Type97’s strong kit is not without downside, however. All RoF self-buff Skills face the inherent problem of limited scaling due to RoF cap. While the game states that the maximum possible ROF is 120, ARs can really only effectively make use of 116 RoF due to animation frame limitations. This means that Type97 can benefit at most from an extra 8% RoF. For more information about the RoF cap, see our guide here.
Type97 is commonly compared with ST AR-15, as both possess a very similar Skill and role. Although Type97 has much stronger base stats, AR-15 can make up for that deficiency with her incredible Equipment slots that allow her to carry two accessories and her special magazine. Additionally, comparing their damage output with Crit and Damage buffs, Type97 and ST AR-15 have similar damage output, though when RoF Buffs are considered, ST AR-15 will outpace Type97 by a sizable margin in longer battles.
In summary, Type97 is an excellent fit for a majority of Echelons in need of a DPS unit and one of the best choices of self-sufficient T-Dolls. Her effectiveness is sizeable throughout all stages of the game, meaning that she is a great investment for beginners and more experienced players.
