Note: Zas M21’s placement in High Priority is only if you do not already have 416 MOD. If you have 416 MOD instead, you can consider Zas M21 to be one of the best (albeit more expensive) options in the Medium AR category. Leave it to Serbia to create one exquisite Balkan rifle. I wonder if she enjoys bowling with her cousin.
Anyway, Zas M21 comes to us with one hell of a Neural Upgrade that combines two powerful roles in one package: very strong single target damage and great AoE damage.
Zas M21’s new Skill 2, Fission Grenade, is very simple. Every time Zas launches a grenade, she gets a 6% buff to her Damage and Critical Damage, stacking up to 5 times and lasting 30 seconds. This combines very well with her upgraded Skill 1 in single target situations, as it now launches a second weaker grenade. On top of this, the two grenades from Skill 1 can even crit now! Compared to 416 MOD, Zas will outperform her when facing larger groups of weaker enemies, but not as well against beefier dummy-linked targets.
Can the buffs go even further than this? Of course! If Zas M21 is upgraded to MOD3, her Special Equipment grants her three additional grenades. She will throw one of these every 10 seconds, with the key point being that one of these will be thrown immediately at the start of the battle. This means that at only 5 seconds in, Zas M21 MOD3 will have already launched 3 grenades, for a ~19% Damage and Crit Damage buff, and by 10 seconds, this will become ~26% Damage and Crit Damage. I haven’t even mentioned the raw stat buffs that Zas gains from her upgrades yet, with MOD1 in particular giving her a whopping 11 DMG and 20% Crit Rate.
As you can probably surmise, Zas M21’s constant buffing of her damage output, combined with multiple grenades that can crit, leads to her having exceptional damage output in single target scenarios, while still having solid performance in AoE scenarios. She does need some time to ramp up her buffs, but this is not a huge problem, especially if you upgrade her to MOD3.
